How to Write a Good Job Post

Looking for workers? A good job post can make a big difference in attracting the right people.
You don't need to write an essay, but giving workers the right information can help them quickly work out if the job is right for them.
1. Use a Clear Job Title
Keep your job title simple and specific.
Instead of “Farm Worker Needed”, try something like:
Chaser Bin Driver – HarvestExperienced Farmhand – Broadacre CroppingStation Hand – Cattle Property
A clear title helps the right workers spot your job straight away.
2. Explain the Role
Give workers a good idea of what they'll actually be doing.
Include the main duties, machinery or livestock they'll be working with and whether the position is casual, seasonal or ongoing.
If there's anything important they should know about the role, include it here.
3. Include the Important Details
Make it easy for someone to decide whether the job will suit them.
Include things like:
Location
Start date
How long the work is expected to last
Pay or pay range
Accommodation, if available
Any licences or experience required
If you're happy to train someone with the right attitude, mention that too.
4. Add a Good Photo
A photo can make your job post much more eye-catching and give workers a feel for your farm or business.
It doesn't need to be professional. A clear, genuine photo of your farm, machinery, livestock or team is plenty.
Where possible, use your own photo rather than a generic stock image.
5. Tell Workers a Little About You
You don't need to write your whole life story. Just a sentence or two about your farm or business can make the job feel much more personal.
For example:
We're a family-run broadacre cropping operation looking for an extra set of hands for harvest. You'll be working alongside a small team, with accommodation available on farm.
It gives workers a better idea of who they'll be working for and what to expect.
Before You Post
Have a quick read through your job ad and ask yourself:
If I knew nothing about this farm or position, would I have enough information to decide if I wanted to apply?
A clear job post can save both you and potential workers time and help get your position in front of people who are a better fit.
